Hi, I’m Steve, Head of Engineering at Mention Me and I’m hiring! Before I tell you more about the role, here's a little bit about Mention Me and what we do.
Becoming a Mentioneer means you’ll be joining our Customer Advocacy Intelligence® movement, which is changing the world of marketing.
Our data-driven Advocacy Intelligence Platform equips brands to drive growth through their fans by encouraging and rewarding personal recommendations.
There’s a good chance you’ve already come across us while online shopping from Puma, Michael Kors, ASOS, Ray Ban, or any other of the 500+ brands we work with.
We’ve delivered more than 5.5m referrals totalling over $2bn in revenue for our clients.
Now, our mission to make all brands think advocacy-first is stepping up a gear, and you might be just who we need to help us.
The Role
We’re looking for an enthusiastic software engineer comfortable with PHP and keen to help figure out the solutions for how we make our product fantastic. Our challenges are not just rooted in code, but in the complexity of advocacy and how that maps to the goals of our clients.
This role will be primarily focused on our backend system (Symfony, PHP) but there will be opportunities to work across the platform including frontend (React, TypeScript), the APIs (GraphQL, REST), our integration tool of choice (Tray.io) and all the other tools and technologies that keep everything humming. You don't need to be an expert in everything - you'll be working with a talented team of engineers, each with their own strengths and expertise and we work together to support each other.
We empower engineers to work with other experts across the business to find the solutions that accelerate the value of advocacy for our clients. We do this through the INSPIRED product process where small, multi-disciplinary teams of product managers, designers and engineers build products that move us towards our vision.
If you want to be involved in product and technology from the ground up in a small team that loves continuous improvement, this role would be perfect for you.
What you’ll do:
- On a typical day, you'll be working towards one of our company goals - for instance building new consumer APIs, creating a new marketing automation integration with one of our partners, working with different partners and learning about cutting edge marketing platforms or guiding our clients through the complexity of integrating advocacy into their marketing stack.
- You'll engage closely with product managers, designers, your engineering peers, alongside stakeholders from the wider business including our delightful client team. You'll be experimenting with our product, aiming to fail fast in product research and help us get through the cycle of testable to usable to loveable. You'll use your expertise in collaboration with your colleagues to build out our extensive library of integrations, using PHP to bring your (and your teams) ideas to life.
- You'll also take ownership with your peers of deploying code, measuring the effectiveness of your team's features and making informed choices with the data available to build improvements. We're delivering the product together - and we're all here to help each other through feedback, training and coaching too.
We'd really like to hear from you, if...
- You have 2-5 years experience with PHP in a commercial, agile software delivery, environment
- You have the ability to work across our stack: JavaScript, React, TypeScript
- You have a desire to put the user first - not the technology
- You have good written and verbal skills - particularly with non-technical people regarding technical subjects
- You have experience using git, GitHub and continuous integration (or equivalent technologies)
Bonus:
We'd love to see a candidate who can demonstrate experience in the following, but we do not consider them essential:
- Building within a production-strength SaaS platform based on best practice architectures, providing high availability (last year we had 99.97% uptime)
- Tray.io - we use this platform with many of our integrations
- GraphQL, MySQL, and the AWS stack or other equivalent technologies
- Working within a multi-disciplinary product team, and experience working closely with product managers and designers to define, measure and achieve product success
- Designing with a security-first approach
- Have an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Maths or a related discipline
